WICKER LAMP - CULTURAL AND SOCIAL DESIGN IN MONCHIQUE

This project emerged during a visit to basketmaker José Rosa's workshop, and throughout the exchange of experiences between the artisan and the designer. We discussed harvesting and treating the wicker, basketry techniques, and the finished objects, and the idea of a lampshade on an architectural scale began to take shape. It was designed for the domestic environment, but also for hospitality and public spaces. The association with the chimneys of Portimão was evident and helped solidify the final form.
