We were interested in the work of carpenter Márcio Alves because the shapes he creates emerge from the characteristics of the wood—its grain, mechanical strength, and permeability. And their use stems from their suitability—large, small, deep, shallow, or flat. In keeping with his sensitivity, we proposed an interpretation of a piece of Portuguese vernacular production housed in the National Museum of Ethnology. This piece, traditional from the Algarve, is used to cut bread in the centre and collect the crumbs in the surrounding bottom.
